THE GARRACK EVANGELION WATCHES ARE OFFICIALLY LICENSED ANIME MERCHANDISE DONE RIGHT

Rare is the word. Officially licensed anime merchandise almost never looks like this. Garrack's Evangelion S-MEISTER Mechanical Watch collection just dropped one of the strongest arguments for why good quality anime merchandise doesn't have to mean overpriced polyester with a character slapped on it. This is a watch. A real, automatic, handcrafted-in-Japan watch. And it happens to be one of the most considered pieces of anime merch released in 2026.

WHAT GARRACK ACTUALLY BUILT

Garrack is a character-focused lifestyle brand. For this Evangelion collaboration, they partnered with Tsuyoshi Musashigawa, a fourth-generation artisan from Musashigawa Koubou workshop in Takaoka City, to execute each dial using Raden, a traditional Japanese decorative technique that involves polishing the iridescent inner layer of abalone shells to 0.1 millimeters thick, coloring from the back of the surface, cutting the pieces to match specific visual motifs, and hand-applying each fragment over Urushi lacquer using traditional animal glue.

The result is a dial that cannot be duplicated. Natural materials, manual application, no two watches reflect light exactly the same way. That is not marketing copy. That is just what happens when you use shell.

Three models cover the three iconic Eva units. Unit-01 in purple and green. Unit-02 in red and orange. Unit-00 in yellow and white. Each unit number is integrated directly into the dial at its corresponding hour position: "01" at 1 o'clock, "02" at 2 o'clock, "00" at 12. The attention to concept is consistent across all three.

THE SPECS: WHAT YOU'RE ACTUALLY BUYING

Each watch is powered by an automatic Miyota movement made entirely in Japan, inside a 41mm stainless steel case with a calf leather strap and mineral glass. The index design references an A.T. Field. The transparent caseback is printed with the NERV logo.

41mm is a solid, wearable size. Not oversized streetwear territory, not too small. The Miyota movement is a reliable workhorse used in watches well above this price point. This is not a fashion watch pretending to be fine watchmaking. It is a legitimate timepiece with legitimate mechanics.

HOW TO WEAR THIS

The Anti-Weeb Fashion styling principle applies directly here: the piece does not announce itself. Nobody at a dinner table is going to lean over and say, "is that an Evangelion watch?" unless they already know. The Raden dials read as art objects. The iridescent shimmer at the right angle is the kind of detail that gets noticed by people with taste, not explained to people who don't have any.

Unit-01 in particular pairs with a neutral fit. Charcoal or olive tones let the purple-green iridescence carry the moment without competing. Unit-02, with its red dial, is the boldest of the three and works best against black or white, where the color has room. Unit-00 is the most wearable of the three across different aesthetics, the yellow-white translates closer to a classic dress watch at a distance.

A leather strap watch at this price point belongs in elevated casual territory. This is a dinner watch, a date watch, a watch you wear when you want the detail to be discovered rather than announced.

10/10

Automatic Miyota movement, stainless steel, calf leather, handcrafted Raden dial made by a fourth-generation artisan. Materials are exceptional at every level.

9/10

Iridescent Raden reads as fine craft before it reads as anime. Only people who recognize the color palette and unit number placement will catch the reference.

Versatility

8/10

Works across elevated casual, date night, business casual. Cannot wear to a formal black-tie event b,ut covers most real-life occasions

Design

10/10

Raden dial handcrafted to match Eva unit color palettes, unit number integrated into hour position, A.T. Field index, NERV caseback. The concept is locked in at every detail.

Value

7/10

$500-515 USD is serious money. It is also a fair price for an automatic movement with a handcrafted artisan dial. Compare to other watches at this price point and the Raden work alone justifies it.

Final Anti-Weeb Score: 8.8/10 Tier: A-Tier

Worth it if: Watches are already part of how you dress and you want an officially licensed anime merch piece that holds up under scrutiny from people who know nothing about anime.

Skip it if: You're buying this purely as a collectible and never plan to wear it. The Raden craft deserves to be seen on a wrist, not in a display case.

Pre-orders open June 12. The launch is June 26. These are handcrafted with natural materials, which means production quantities are going to be limited by nature. If Unit-01 has your name on it, set a reminder now.
