The Brief
DreamCon, one of the premier anime and pop culture conventions, selected me as an official content creator for DreamCon 2025. The role required me to create on-the-ground content that educated potential attendees and the broader anime community about the convention experience, highlighted vendors on the floor, and captured authentic community moments throughout the event.

Strategy
Vlog-Style Vendor Coverage
Rather than creating polished promotional content, I documented the convention experience as a genuine attendee would, walking the floor, discovering vendors, and reacting in real time. I featured four vendors across my content, framing each one through the lens of anime fashion and culture relevance so the coverage felt editorial rather than advertorial. This approach gives future attendees a realistic, trustworthy preview of what to expect on the floor.

Community-First Moments
Alongside vendor coverage, I captured organic community moments, taking photos with attendees, spotlighting standout cosplayers, and engaging with the people who make conventions worth attending. These moments are what drive shareability at events like DreamCon because they reflect the audience's own experience back at them.

Search-Optimized Content Framing
Each piece of content was framed around searchable convention and cosplay terms, which paid off in the traffic data. The vendor spotlight post drew search traffic from queries like "subtle anime merch" and "subtle merch," indicating the content was actively surfacing for people researching convention vendors and brands. The cosplayer spotlight drew searches around "Toji cosplay comic con" and "DreamCon Toji," meaning the content was discoverable well beyond my existing audience.

Results
TikTok, Vendor Spotlight ("Finding Anti-Weeb Fashion") Series
This post reached 11,000 views with 43 hours and 11 minutes of total watch time, an average watch time of 10.47 seconds, 936 likes, 20 comments, 81 shares, and 196 saves. It drove 133 new followers directly. Notably, 17.4% of traffic came from search , a strong indicator that the content was optimized well enough to surface for people actively researching convention vendors and anime fashion. The top search query driving traffic was "soularbrand" at 45.4%, followed by "soularbrand review" and "subtle merch," meaning this post functioned as organic discovery content for a featured vendor beyond just DreamCon awareness.

TikTok, Cosplayer Spotlight ("Toji Cosplayer Gets Gifted")
This post reached 16,000 views with 42 hours and 6 minutes of total watch time, an average watch time of 9.46 seconds, 559 likes, 2 comments, 3 shares, and 43 saves. It drove 8 new followers and pulled 86% of its traffic from the For You page, meaning the algorithm pushed it broadly to new audiences. Search queries included "Toji cosplay comic con," "DreamCon Toji," and "Bringing prop weapons to dream con," confirming the content reached people actively searching for DreamCon and cosplay content.

Instagram — DreamCon Overview Reel
This reel reached 15,679 views and 12,180 accounts, with 1,119 likes, 25 comments, 185 saves, and 218 shares. It drove 79 new followers. Critically, 74.4% of views came from non-followers, meaning this content functioned primarily as a discovery asset, introducing DreamCon and AWI to a brand new audience rather than simply engaging existing followers.

Instagram, Cosplayer Spotlight Reel
This reel reached 6,597 views and 5,259 accounts, with 149 likes, 2 comments, 9 saves, and 2 shares.
Combined Performance

Across all four posts the campaign generated 49,276+ total views, 2,763 likes, 237 saves, 304 shares, 49 comments, and 220 new followers, all from a single convention weekend with complimentary access as the only compensation.

Why It Worked
DreamCon's audience and AWI's audience are nearly identical: anime fans, cosplayers, and pop culture enthusiasts who care deeply about community and authenticity. That alignment meant the content didn't need to be manufactured. I was already the target attendee, which gave the coverage genuine authority.

The traffic data tells a particularly compelling story. The vendor spotlight post generated significant search traffic around specific brand names featured in the content, effectively functioning as organic SEO for those vendors without any paid amplification. The DreamCon overview reel reached 74.4% non-followers on Instagram, demonstrating that event coverage content is one of the strongest audience growth formats in this niche, people who weren't following me found the content because they were already interested in DreamCon.

The combination of the For You page reach on TikTok and non-follower reach on Instagram means this campaign extended DreamCon's visibility across two separate discovery mechanisms simultaneously.

Key Takeaways
This campaign demonstrates the value of embedding a niche-aligned creator directly into a live event rather than relying on post-event promotional content. Four pieces of content produced across a single weekend generated 49,000+ views, 220 new followers, and organic search traffic for featured vendors, with complimentary badge access as the only investment. The non-follower reach data on Instagram and the search traffic data on TikTok confirm that event-based creator content functions as a sustained discovery asset well beyond the convention dates themselves.

For conventions, activations, and live events looking to extend their reach into the anime and pop culture community, an embedded creator who already lives in that world will always outperform a production crew that doesn't.

Let's Work Together
This model works especially well for conventions, brand activations, pop-ups, and any live event where authentic on-the-ground coverage is more valuable than polished post-production content. If you're bringing an experience to the anime or pop culture community and want it documented by someone already in the culture, let's talk.
