Anime Style Persona Quiz

I spent 30+ hours building an anime style quiz to help my community find their personal fashion persona. Here's why it matters and how I made it free.
The Project
I created a free 25-archetype anime style persona quiz to help my community discover their personal fashion aesthetic. The quiz generates personalized style personas tied to anime characters, complete with two outfit recommendations, brand pairings across three tiers (high fashion, affordable, anime-specific), and gender-neutral styling guidance.
The Challenge
I underestimated the complexity. What I thought would take 1-2 hours took 30+ hours. The backend required sophisticated conditional formatting to support 25 different personas, each with layered recommendations, similar character archetypes, and multi-tier brand suggestions. I wanted it free, so I had to find a platform solution that didn't require paid infrastructure.
The Solution
I built the quiz using Tally as my platform, a free tool that allowed me to handle the conditional formatting and backend logic without paying for platform fees. I kept the quiz completely free because my community built my platform, creating a paid gate on something this foundational felt wrong. For people who want deeper work, I offer paid 1-on-1 styling consultations.
The Results
⚫ 995 visits in the first week
⚫ 542 submissions from people taking the quiz
⚫ 456 unique responses in the first 24 hours alone
⚫ 50-100 visits per day on average (ongoing)
The metrics proved what I already knew: people were hungry for a tool that helped them translate anime aesthetics into actual style.
Why It Matters
This project wasn't just about building a quiz. It was about creating a free resource that serves my community first and demonstrates the value of what I offer. The sustained traffic (50-100 visits daily) shows real, ongoing demand. The response, people sharing results, DMing excitement, actually using their personas to build outfits, proves the tool actually solves a problem people had.
It also planted the seed for something bigger: eventually building this into an interactive app or platform that's more community-driven and accessible.
What I Learned
Backend complexity is invisible to users. The 30+ hours of conditional formatting and logic-testing don't show in the final result, but they're what made the quiz work seamlessly. The real win wasn't the time investment, it was having community members invested enough to stay with me through every frustrated Discord rant.
Free resources aren't lost revenue. They're trust builders and funnels to paid services. The quiz converts curious people into people ready to invest in styling consultations.
